£162 top bid at Downpatrick sale

A non pedigree calved cow made the top price of £162 at the dispersal sale of Mr Martin A Lowe’s Friesian herd at Ringcladdy, Ballyculter, Downpatrick, last week. The buyer was Mr James McAuley of Castlewellan.

There was strong bidding and a complete clearance at the sale with 14 animals being purchased by Fane Valley Co-Operative Society, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan.

A non pedigree springing cow was sold to Mr John Rankin, Loughries, Newtownards, for £133 and Mr Robert Mulligan, Corbet, Banbridge, went to £128 to secure another non-pedigree springing cow. Mr Mulligan also bought a pedigree animal, Ringcladdy Lead 7th for 130 guineas.

Mr N W Shaw, Saintfield, purchased two non-pedigree cows at £127 and £125 and a non-pedigree calved cow was sold to the Fane Valley Co-Operative for £126.

Ringcladdy Mary, a pedigree springing cow was bought by Mr R J Ingrim, Rathfriland, for 122 guineas and Mr William Crea, Ballyculter, Downpatrick, went to 121 guineas for another pedigree animal, Ringcladdy Judy 12th.

Mr W O Jackson, Crossgar, gave 120 guineas for Ringcladdy Jill 3rd, a pedigree animal.
