THE sun was out and the weather was certainly kind on Saturday, September 29, which saw the first of Downshire’s three Working Hunter Shows at Mill Yard, by kind permission of Lucy McGuinness.
In keeping with the Mill Yard spirit, the onus was on everyone having an enjoyable experience, especially if this was a first attempt by the rider or horse at Working Hunter. Judge Seamus Rodgers had words of encouragement for everyone and riders and indeed horses benefitted from the relaxed atmosphere.
By popular demand, Seamus will be the judge at all three shows, so ensuring continuity. The course set up by Pam Fox, with the help of James Hepburn and Heather Hillen, was well received by all competing.
Prizes will be awarded at the final on October 13, so riders still have a chance to qualify for these by competing in the next leg on Saturday, October 6. Riders must have competed in one qualifying leg to be eligible for prizes in the final, however, all are welcome to compete in any one of the three shows.
Further details can be found on the Club website: www.Downshireridingclub.com or the Facebook page of either Mill Yard or Downshire.
The well deserved overall Champion from the first leg was a delighted Antoinette Milligan on her lovely horse ‘King’s Appraisal’, with Tracey Adams and the likeable ‘Belle’ filling the reserve spot.
So it was a successful first foray into running this Working Hunter at Mill Yard for Downshire and it could not have been done without the help of the Downshire committee and input from Lucy McGuinness. Thanks go to them and to judge Seamus Rodgers and photographer John Rymer of Nomad Photography.
