Over the next few weeks the poultry hobby has a number of poultry shows to look forward to.
With Covid and then avian flu restrictions, poultry showing has been very restricted over the past couple of years but thankfully we have been able to hold a number of events of late which has helped poultry keepers who try to maintain our yesteryear fowl breeds.
The next poultry event is this Saturday, November 26, when the East Antrim Bantam Association holds its annual show at the Slemish Hall in the Ballymena showgrounds.
Included in this event is a Northern Ireland Regional Old English Game Club Show.
This show includes classes for all soft feather bantam breeds, hard feather breeds and domestic waterfowl, and a junior poultry handler class has been introduced.
The following Saturday, December 3, is the Ballymena Poultry Club’s second club show incorporating the Sussex and Belgian bantam club shows.
This show is also being held at the Slemish Hall in the Ballymena showgrounds and has classes for all varieties of poultry and domestic waterfowl.
Schedules and entry forms are available on the Ballymena Poultry Club Facebook page with entries closing on Wednesday, November 30.
The final event this year is the Dromore Poultry Club’s second Soft Feather and Waterfowl Show on Saturday, December 10, held at 92 Old Mill Road, Loughbrickland, BT32 3PP, courtesy of James Hammond.
Schedules and entry forms will be available soon on the Dromore Poultry Show Group Facebook page or by contacting Guy Richardson on Facebook messenger or by phoning him on 07752 020831.
n Entries for this event close on Wednesday, December 7.
