After a lapse of four years, Islandmagee senior and junior clubs last week revived their annual Christmas concert at Mullaghdubh old school last week.
Maybeth Hanvey, senior leader of the junior club and club Press Officer, was one of the leading figures behind the production.
“We have discovered that the popularity of television, which used to be a strong counter-attraction, is on the wane,” she explained.
“People seem to want to get out more in the evenings.”
The truth of her statement was borne out by the 400-plus crowd which turned up for the two performances and packed the small school hall.
But despite the somewhat cramped conditions back-stage, the artistes made light of the difficulties and turned in a sparkling performance.
“It really made those two long months of rehearsals well worthwhile,” Maybeth said afterwards.
One of the evening’s highlights was the pre-sentation of the Nelson Cup for public speaking to 24 year old Pauline McDowell who recently took first place in the 12-14 age group in the County Antrim YFCU finals.
