A lone protest at Enniskillen

50 April 1 1970 protest SM Farm

A lone farmer with placards on his car staged a protest last Wednesday night when the president of the UFU Mr William Hamill arrived at Enniskillen Agricultural College to speak to about 150 farmers on the recent Price Review awards.

Before the meeting began, Mr Frank Tubnman, Ballinamallard, chairman of the Fermanagh Farmers’ Action Committee, carried the placards – criticising the UFU and the Milk Board – into the hall and displayed them around the walls.

Mr George A Cathcart, Bellanaleck, chairman of the South Fermanagh UFU Group, was chairman at the meeting and speakers included Mr J T O’Brien, chief executive officer of the Livestock Marketing Commission, and Dr George Chambers, general manager of the Milk Marketing Board.
