WITH the sun shining and the arenas in great order, no wonder horses and riders were in super form at Gransha Equestrian Centre, Bangor. Organisers were fortunate to have the very generous sponsors in attendance, Caroline Grimshaw and Rachel Rogan. Competitors were awarded Body Shop goody bags and pretty purple rosettes. Courtney Stuart had the pleasure of judging the horse and rider combinations and there were plenty of quality tests on show.
Lucy Adams kicked things off with a win in the Elementary class on board her lovely new mount, ‘Kipper’. Shenade Duggan and ‘Harry’ were second. Georgie Young received a great score with ‘Homegrown Index’ in the Novice 26 class, while sisters Rose and Charlotte De Montmorency went head to head in the Novice 23 class. Rose took the win with ‘Ozzie’, while Charlotte had to settle for second place with ‘Sam’. Fiona Young slotted into third with ‘Homegrown Index’.
In the Combined Training section of this class, it was a clear win for Jaclyn Brackenridge with ‘Orion’. Samantha Edgar and ‘Sam’ took second, while Kacey Pollock and ‘Oscar’ were third. In the junior section, Ralph Robinson took the win in the 90cm class with ‘Perkins’, while Jessica Mulgrew and ‘Knockagarron Emperor’ won the 80cm class.
In the Preliminary section, it was a great first outing for Shirley Anderson and ‘Impersonator’ as they rode to victory in DI P18 in the young horse class. Anna Dunlop took the win in the Senior BD Prelim 2 class with ‘George’. Sandra Murray took second, while Emma Wilkinson claimed third.
It was a photo finish for Claire Williams with ‘Kali’ and Laura Bell with ‘Mr Bumble’ in the Combined Training section, with Claire just pipping Laura to the post. Karen Jeffrey and her partner ‘Junior’ sailed to victory in DI P18 class, scoring a great mark in the dressage and leaving all the show jumps standing. Aaron Brown and ‘Yolantay’ finished second.
Rosemary McCullough was the only Senior Intro rider of the day. She picked up a score of 67% with ‘Burnished Denman’, while her daughter Charlotte took the win in the Junior Combined Training section with ‘CoCo’. In the 50cm class, it was a great day for Charlotte McAllister on board ‘Ruby’ as they went clear too. New combination Toby Collins and ‘Loup Lilly’ earned their first red ribbon in the cross-pole class.
