SATURDAY, October 1 saw Hagans Croft’s Jump Mix event continue. The cross-poles class was first on the schedule, with four budding young jumpers and their super ponies taking on the mix of show jumps and rustic fences. Only one double clear was to be seen and that was from Ruby Dodds and ‘Twilight’, but everyone in the class was awarded with a lovely ribbon and a tub of popcorn to encourage them along in their jumping career.
The 50cm class saw the competition start to hot up, as the second phase of the course, fences nine to 12, were against the clock. Everyone in the class successfully jumped a double clear round, so it was down to who did it in the fastest time and that was Carla Owens and ‘Brackenfinch Bon Bon’ in 30.87 seconds – well done! A hair’s whisker could have separated first and second placings, as Vivienne Andrews and ‘Sarahs Pebbles’ finished clear in a time of 30.90 seconds, just 0.03 seconds behind Carla. Great sportsmanship was seen between all competitors.
A total of six competitors took on the 60cm class and, with some more fillers added to the course, as well as back poles, suddenly the course got that little bit more challenging. Only one competitor finished on a clear score and that was Eilis Donnelly and ‘Sally’. The pair jumped a beautiful double clear round in 35.03 seconds and were delighted to be bringing home the red rosette. Anna Poots and ‘Maggie’ jumped a fantastic round, however, had an unfortunate pole down, incurring four faults in a super speedy time of 26.59 seconds. Even so, this was enough to get them second place and a blue rosette.
It was then on to the 70cm class, where Zac Hanna and ‘CLF Buddy’ held the top spot for a long time, until Melanie Talbot and ‘Calypso’ entered the arena to take on the challenge. Clear all the way in a time of 22.03 seconds, Melanie and ‘Calypso’ had done enough to canter home with the red ribbon. Not far behind, Zac and ‘CLF Buddy’ finished in 23.69 seconds and claimed second place.
It was great to see Alex Greer and ‘Phoenix Spark’ back out competing at this venue and the pair were certainly back out on top form. They took the 80cm course by storm, executing all turns and short cuts in sight, as well as keeping all poles intact, finishing clear on the scoreboard in the fastest time across the whole day… Blink and you could have missed it, a jaw-dropping 17.47 seconds! No-one came close to challenging them for the red rosette! Second place went to Izzy Napier and ‘Rocky’ with a lovely double clear in 29.71 seconds, a super partnership!
A few new faces were seen in the 90cm class and, with only one double clear to be seen, it wasn’t hard to tell who was coming home with the red rosette for the class. First place went to Ciara Collins and ‘Ruby’. Second place went to Abbey Stevenson and her black beauty Friesian ‘Belle’.
The last class of the day was the 1m class and, as the fences reached these new heights, there were sounds of poles hitting the ground. Unfortunately, no clear rounds were to be seen, so it was down to who completed the course with the least number of faults and in the fastest time. Eabna Mallon and ‘Fragile Dreams’ took home the red rosette, followed by Mya Morrison and ‘Levante’ in second place.
Hagans Croft would like to thank everyone who supported their Jump Mix event and thanks are extended to all the stewards and arena party for making the event run so smoothly. There is one more week of this particular event, with all those competing in the cross-poles class receiving a rosette and a treat and, in each class thereafter, rosettes are given to first to sixth place, with first place receiving a small prize. This event is pre-entry only, with entries taken via Hagans Croft’s website: www.haganscroft equestrian.co.uk or you can download and enter through the Hagans Croft App. Entries close each Thursday at 8pm prior to Saturday’s event and start times are posted online on Thursday evenings. Photographs can be purchased online from Black Horse Photography.
