THE inaugural British Blue sale at Worcester on Saturday, April 30, was a great success, with Almeley Pedro from GL Morgan coming out on top at 4800gns. The bull, sired by Heatherview Jack, took the eye of several potential purchasers, but was finally knocked down to SF & JH Wagstaff, Rugby, Warwickshire.
Next at 4500gns was Twyning Ash Preston, from R & J Carter, Coaley, Gloucestershire. Preston had a carcase profitability index in the top one per cent and very good growth rate figures.
He was the pick of TK & EM Tolley, Redditch, Worcestershire.
Females topped at 2500gns for an in-calf heifer from S Madeley, Ross-on-Wye. Glewstone Opal, sired by Bringlee Blackstar, sold PD’d in calf to AI sire Tenance De La Praule. Buying her was S T Daly, Rugby, Warwickshire.
Bulls averaged £3,948; in-calf heifers averaged £2,625.
