The Belmont House Hotel on the Rathfriland Road, Banbridge, was the venue last Saturday of the second Poultry Fair at this location.
In the couple of weeks proceeding the fair the sellers take up was slower than the first sale but, true to form, in the last couple of days before the event the phone was hot with poultry keepers looking to bring their poultry, waterfowl and equipment to this event and, as if to assist with the day, the sun shone.
Sellers reported a flurry of activity at the start of the sale. This then quietened, though there were plenty of viewers of the numerous breeds on offer. In the last hour of the sale buyers descended upon the stalls with increased fervour until the finishing time at 1pm.
Of course, the refreshments supplied by the hotel staff were well received by sellers, buyers and viewers alike.
I am so pleased to see that we now have a regular poultry event in a prime location which gives all those who have a love of poultry an opportunity to meet up for a morning’s craic.
With the auction planned for Saturday, October 2, as well as future sales which will be announced when arranged, we can look forward to an enjoyable few months.
n Hope to see you all at these future events.
