Armagh celebrates 175th Agricultural Show

ARMAGH celebrated their 175th Agricultural Show with over 500 competitors taking part in their equestrian classes on Saturday, June 11 at Gosford Forest Park, Markethill. With the inclusion of several qualifiers for Dublin Horse show, competitors travelled from all over Ireland to take part.

The highly contested Breeders’ Championships were won by Margaret Jeffares and her mare ‘Bally Kelly Not A Lot’ and Derry Rothwell with his mare ‘GreenHall Push Button’ respectively. The elegant Side-saddle classes were well supported, with two sisters Rebecca and Vicky Rafter both qualifying their horses for Dublin.

Ridden Connemaras were in abundance, with first place going to Colleen Murphy on ‘Shanaghy Star’ and second to Annalong rider Leah Chambers on ‘Newtown Melody’. As usual, there were huge entries in the Family Pony classes, with the Fancy Dress class finishing off the day in style, as various characters of storybooks paraded around the ring.

A huge thank you must go to all the local sponsors, Irish Draught Society Northern Ireland, Armagh City Hotel, Annaghmore Saddlery, Premier Saddlery and P2P committee for their continued support; thanks also to all the judges, who stood in some heavy showers to judge and, finally, all the stewards who volunteer their time.
