Autumn Working Hunter League at Ardnacashel Equestrian

SATURDAY, October 16 was week three of the Ardnacashel Working Hunter League. A beautifully presented, dressed and flowing course, built by the team at Ardnacashel, provided just enough of a challenge for all the competitors.

Pony judge Sylvia Henry started her day with a large cross-poles class, with many beautifully turned out riders and ponies to choose from. Ollie Gordon and ‘Maypole Stargate’ eventually took the honours.

Moving on to the 60cm pony class and again in a large class, Jocelyn Hutchinson dominated taking first and second places with her ponies ‘Langwedh Miss Saigon’ and ‘Phoenix’. Jocelyn continued her success in the 70cm pony class, again taking first and second with ‘Langwedh Miss Saigon’ and ‘Flight of Earls Alo’.

In the pony 80cm class, Poppy Smith repeated her performance from weeks one and two, taking first place with ‘Haywards Lasting Impression’; Poppy then went on to win the M&M class.

After a short break and course adjustments, Declan O’Neill took over judging for the horse classes. Starting with the 70cm class, Allison Matthews took first place with ‘Jack’, closely followed by Karen Connolly with ‘Herbie’.

In the 80cm class, Catherine Patterson and the lovely ‘Carrabawn Jewel’ stormed into the lead, with Helen Sawey on ‘Rachra Supreme’ taking second. Helen then went on the win the Small Hunter class.

Heather Steele won the 90cm class on ‘Poppy’, after what the judge described as a ‘perfectly jumped round’.

The 1m class was won by Andrew Greer on ‘Sharp Object’, who was being true to her name, jumping an exuberant round.

As always, many thanks to judges Sylvia Henry and Declan O’Neill for their time, expertise and kind words to competitors and to the staff and helpers for the smooth running of the shows.
