IF we eventually get the go-ahead from the Department for shows to go ahead, Ballymoney Show is one of the first ones to take place after Balmoral.
This is a lovely friendly show to attend. I don’t think I have missed many of them. It is held in Ballymoney Showgrounds, on the edge of the town. It has terrific support from Finvoy, Kilraughts and Moycraig, three of the local Young Farmers’ Clubs, who take a lot to do with organising this event.
It is to be held on Friday and Saturday, June 3-4. There is a Dog and Pet show on the Friday night, Young Farmers football and Tug of War competitions.
Then on Saturday there are all the usual livestock classes for cattle, sheep, goats, and poultry. Lots of horse and pony classes, trade stands and a dedicated children’s area with workshops, face painting, puppets, fancy dress, and bonny baby competitions.
The poultry will be judged this year by the very experienced Hugh Thompson. The numbers may be smaller than some other shows, but I think this gives people the opportunity to chat and catch up.
For any new exhibitors there will be a chance to ask questions and learn more about your specific breeds from other exhibitors.
