Seaforde Women’s Institute President Annabel Cleland welcomed the ladies and two new visitors, Donna Whiteman and Helen Carlisle.
An excellent talk about Belfast and the Second World War was given by Michael Fryer from Belfast War Museum.
Photos and documents were shown and facts about those who served at home shared.
The competition, which was a poppy brooch, was won by Cilla Green, second Lorraine Bothwell, and third Jennifer Heenan.
The ballot was won by Joy Clarke and the Birthday Girl was Helen Newell.
Seaforde WI’s collection for the local foodbank at Newcastle was excellent, with Audrey Briggs to make the delivery.
This year’s chosen charity is the Trussell Trust Organisation, food bank co-ordinators, and the proceeds from the quiz in February will be donated to it.
The next meeting of Seaforde WI is on December 12 when a party marking the organisation’s 90th birthday and, of course, Christmas, will be held.
