GLORIOUS sunshine set the scene for a successful and very enjoyable annual Beth’s charity show at Portmore Equestrian Centre, kind permission of Rafael and Chantal Suarez.

There were over 250 entries across the two arenas and, at the time of going to press, almost £4,500 had been raised with some donations still coming in to the Just Giving site.

DOUBLE WIN: Charlotte Betts and ‘Percy’ were double winners on the day at Beth’s Charity Show. (FW36-530NN)

This was the eighth running of this show, which each year raises money to help make life a little more comfortable for Beth, who suffers from the neurological condition, Friedrich’s Ataxia. It was great to have Beth herself at the show and once again she drew the lucky prizewinners in the prize draw.

The organisers and Beth’s family would like to thank anyone who helped towards making the show such a success.

Firstly the sponsors, without whom the show would not be possible. This show is known for its fantastic prizes and this year was no exception!

Class sponsors in Arena 1 were Contraflex, The Irish Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation Centre, Dubarry Ireland, Johnny O’Connell, Clandeboye Lodge Hotel, Tullyraine Equine Clinic and Bluegrass Horse Feeds.

In Arena 2, the sponsors were Evelyn Ferres, Alison Baird, Horse Sitters NI, Rockvale Equestrian, Richard Nesbitt, CMC Physiotherapy and Clonkeen Equestrian.

Other fantastic prizes were sponsored by Tori O’Connor Photography, Rosie’s Rovers Boarding Kennels, Caroline McBurney Photography, Samantha Hayes, Sports Therapy NI and young Nathan O’Neill. Thanks again to one and all.

Thanks also to all those who gave up their valuable time to help out on the day: judges, starters, arena stewards and entry takers. Organisers have built up a fantastic team of helpers and their time is very much appreciated.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who attended the show. Organisers hope you all enjoyed your day’s jumping and will support again next year!

Ring 2 was under the watchful eyes of Dora Beacom and Sharon Cullen and provided a relaxed atmosphere for the younger or less experienced competitors. Many of the cross-pole competitors were at their first show and they coped brilliantly. The double clears in the 40cm, 50cm and 60cm drew for cups and other fantastic prizes including stuffed unicorns!

The Rockvale Equestrian 70cm class was jumped off against the clock and Charlotte Betts and ‘Percy’ pulled out all the stops to win. This set up a fabulous double for this duo, as they also won the Clonkeen Equestrian 75cm speed class. Well done Charlotte and ‘Percy’!

Maddison Warnock and ‘Alfie’ jumped a great round to win the 80cm class, sponsored by Richard Nesbitt and CMC Physiotherapy to round off the proceedings in the indoor.

Meanwhile, outside in Ring 1, there was some very exciting jumping, judged by Hilary McClelland.

The huge Contraflex 80cm class was won in fine style by Johan Fitzpatrick Burns on ‘Chocolate’ and they also went on to win the Irish Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation 90cm class as well.

Young James Courtney-Cadam showed his older rivals a clean pair of heels to win a very exciting Dubarry Ireland 95cm speed class.

Philip White and ‘Bob’ won a hugely well supported Johnny O’Connell metre class and this was just the start of a great day for Philip.

The subsequent Clandeboye Lodge Hotel Two-Fence Challenge was enjoyed by spectators and competitors alike. This was run over an oxer and a vertical, starting at a metre and faulters had the opportunity to buy back in. After some fantastic jumping, the class was shared between Philip and Ruari Clarke, who both cleared 1.40m to share the prize pot. Aoife Carr finished in a super third place and was delighted with her Dubarry handbag.

Robyn McFadden had a narrow advantage over Fionn Clarke to win the Tullyraine Equine clinic 1.10m class and Barry McCormack jumped a fantastic round to win the Bluegrass 1.20m class and bring to a close a fantastic day of jumping.

Thanks once again to all who supported and donated and please put this day in your diaries for next year.
