There was a very large entry of homebred stores on offer at the Automart anniversary sale at Portadown last week which also featured a Christmas show.
In the bullock class first prize was won by Mr N McCann, Clare, Gilford, and second place went to Mr S Harrison, Muckery, Portadown. Both prize winners realised £9 to £9-5 per cwt and up to £65 each.
Mr N Campbell, Camith Lodge, Portadown, won first prize in the heifer class and Mrs M J Palmer, Foymore, Portadown, was placed second. Both animals were sold for £8-10 to £9-4 per cwt and to £64 each.
In the Charolais class Mr R McIlroy, Killyman, won first prize with an 18-months-old bullock of 10 cwt which realised £97. Second prize went to Mr W Murphy, Blackskull, Dromore.
Mr W J Allen, Tullymore, Benburb, got first prize in the heifer class and Mr J Shanks, Blackskull, Dromore, was second.
Prices remained steady with top bullocks to £9 per cwt and to £87 each, small store bullocks to £9 per cwt and from £56 to £68 each.
In the fat cow class over 10 cwt, Mr S Harrison, Derryall, Portadown, won first and second prize with two top lots which realised £89 and £77-10.
In the under 10 cwt class Mrs Palmer, Toymore, Portadown, won first prize and Mr Walter Donaldson was second.
A total entry of 1,520 pigs, including 70 sows, were on offer at the Portadown Show and Sale. For the best pen of pigs over 80lbs Mr W Hogg, Drumsavage, Richhill, won first prize and realised £11-12 each.
In the under 80 lbs class, Mr J Kerr, Enagh, Dromara, won first prize for a choice lot which realised £8-2s each.
The 1,346 stores sold averaged £8-14-8d each; small suckers £6 to £7-5 each.
In the springing sow class, Mr Shannon, Ballinskeagh, Banbridge, took first and second prizes with two top gilts which realised £38-10 and £47-10 each; others £38 to £44.
In the fat sow class Mr J Watson, Edentrillick, Dromore, won first prize and Mr J Gregson, Waringstown, was second. All top lots realised to £6-10 per cwt.
Sows and litters sold to £66-10 each.
