THE Ulster Ram Breeders’ Association Blackface sec-
tion held its Annual Show and Sale on Monday, October 1, in Ballymena Mart. A Lanark shearling from Charlie Phillips, Draperstown, took top price of the day at 9000gns.
A Lanark ram lamb from Veronica and Patrick Fullerton, Draperstown, took the second highest price of 8500gns in ring 1, followed by a Lanark ram lamb from James McCurdy, Broughshane, who received 7000gns.
This was followed by a Perth ram lamb in ring 2 from Conway Brothers, Plumbridge, who re-
ceived 5500gns for their Ch-ampion of Champions from the show earlier in the day followed by the Reserve Champion Perth ram lamb from Cathal Breslin, Castlederg, which made 4800gns. The Reserve Champion of Champions was a Perth shearling from Russell and Mark Smyth, making 3000gns.
In the Lanark ring 203 shearlings sold to average £826 and 64 ram lambs sold to average £1,133. In the Perth ring 36 shearlings sold to average £583 and 73 ram lambs sold to average £924. Averages were up in two of the four groups and there were 27 more sheep sold compared to last year.
The next top prices of 4500gns went to a Perth ram lamb from Tom Adams, Rathkenny, and a Lanark shearling from Eoin McKenna, Maghera, followed by two Lanark shearlings, 4200gns from Karl O’Mullan, Dunloy, and 4000gns to Robert Loughery, Limavady.

The day started with the judging. Bert Macintosh, “Tom-breakie”, Scotland, judged the shearlings, Elizabeth Johnston, “Chamberwells”, Scotland, judged the ram lambs and William McCann, Glenravel, judged the Champion of Champions.
