Bringing an end to vintage season

THE traditional end of the local vintage season, the annual Threshing Day at McKibbin Brothers, Killyless Road, Cullybackey, again turned out to be one of the highlights of the year.

Because of the Covid pandemic, it was a slightly toned down version, a week earlier than usual, no indoor entertainment or no lawnmower racing.

There was no real publicity either for this year’s event; it was more on a word of mouth basis, but word certainly had got around – and it was mostly held outside, though thankfully the weather was kind, especially for the last Saturday in October.

However, anyone who has ever been at McKibbins’ will know that it is a real treasure trove of vintage machines, cars, tractors, lorries, motorcycles, steam and stationary engines. There were also blacksmith, stonebreaker and threshing demonstrations.

The proceeds were in aid of the Diamond Primary School. There was a special link, too, in that John McKibbin’s daughter Emma is a teacher at the school.
