ARDNACASHEL Equestrian were pleased to host a new event on Sunday January 16 in the form of cash jumping. Classes from 70cm and up challenged riders to take 10% of entries for the class in cash for coming first place.
After completing the X Poles, 50cm and 60cm classes, competitors in the 70cm started off the excitement of jumping the flowing course showcasing some of the new fences with the second half against the clock. This first class didn’t disappoint and ended up with a first place draw for Katie McDonald on Peaches and Lindsay Leonard on Bailey who, after jumping clear, had the exact same time of 46.45 seconds. They were followed by Caitlyn Wells on Mika in a time of 33.98 but with a very unlucky pole down.
The 80cm was the largest class of the day and provided some fierce competition for first place. The honour ultimately went to Gayle Connery on Bailey in a time of 27.41. She was closely followed by Poppy Smith on Paddy.
Poppy then went on to the 90cm class where she shaved a few 100ths of a second off her 80cm time to win the class with Cassie Huddleston on Bubble hot on her heels in second place.
Cassie then took first place in the 1m class with Emma Jackson riding Corey Mawhinney’s Aine coming second behind her.
All this happened with a very successful equestrian car boot sale running in the background, giving competitors and spectators the perfect excuse to spend their prize money.
