THERE were super entries for the third leg of Causeway Coast Arena’s ‘Dressage Challenge’ on Sunday, February 13. Emma Hobson had a busy day ahead, commenting on how well presented the riders were and the very close competition. The first class of the day saw the riders performing BD Intro C and first place went to Dawn McAllister with a top score of 78.47 % on her Connemara ‘Aria’. Amy Rowlands took second place with ‘AJ’ on a score of 73.04%.
Elizabeth Moreland and ‘Shilo’ maintained their lead in the Intro league placings. The Intro class under 16 section was won by Grace Cameron with a score of 68.91% on her beautiful pony ‘Sambo’ and a very close second was Charlotte Killen on ‘Ted’ on a score of 68.47%. Just one point separates Charlotte Killen and fellow North Derry Pony Clubber Chloe Beacham in the league placings for the Under 16 section, with Charlotte in the lead. Both girls are joint leaders of the Dressage Challenge points table, with their coach Ciaran McCormick just three points behind them!
The Prelim class incorporated the Equine Awards NI Junior Dressage Rising Star qualifier, it was a competitive class and Zoe Daniel and ‘Pinocchio’ took top spot, with Charlotte Killen on ‘Ted’ in second. The Over 16s rode BD Prelim 14 and it was Ciaran McCormick with a fantastic score of 77.5% who took top place riding ‘Navaho Spirit’. Local equine vet, Rosie Alcorn took very close joint second placings with her two home-bred horses ‘Maeve’ and ‘Phoenix’, on identical scores of 76.92%. Abbie Wylie and ‘Queenie Vandersloot’ took fourth place in this class and this was enough to maintain her lead in the Prelim league table, closely followed by Ciaran McCormick, with Debbie Allen just one point behind in third place. The Prelim Under 16 section, sees Chloe Beacham in top spot in the league table with a six-point lead, ahead of Charlotte Killen.
It was great to see a good competitive Novice class, with eight riders battling it out riding BD Novice 30, but it was Rosie Alcorn who took the lead with ‘Maeve’ on a score of 72.69% and also took second place with stablemate ‘Phoenix’ on a score of 71.92%. Ciara McLaughlin with ‘Clonakilty Diamond Hero’ settled for third place, but maintained their lead in the Novice league table, five points ahead of Debbie Allen with ‘Rose of Gethsemane’.
All proceeds from the show go to the very worthwhile Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Causeway Coast and Glens charity. The organisers would like to thank everyone who supported the third leg of the ‘Dressage Challenge’. They would like to extend their gratitude to all who help prior to and on the day of the show.
