EAST Antrim Pony Club held their annual awards ball on Saturday, November 12 at the Ross Park Hotel. The event was attended by more than 160 members, parents and friends and the party lasted into the night, with DJ Gaz’s music keeping the dance floor busy.
District Commissioner, Hayley Cunningham welcomed guests from the East Antrim Hounds and thanked the hotel for a lovely meal and great service; and John Gibson of Sporting Images for taking the evening’s photographs. She thanked all the club’s landowners and venue providers, in particular the Bingham family and Ruth and Scott Logan at Knockagh. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the committee, in particular secretary, Kathy Morrow, for all their hard work in keeping the club running smoothly. Gifts were presented to parent volunteers, who have gone ‘above and beyond’ in helping out this year – namely, Diane Jones, Kenny Hamilton, Marty Bagchus, the McCrea family, Lynn and Walter Martin, Rachelle Reid and Nicola Robinson.
East Antrim have had a very busy 12 months with high levels of participation in rallies, badge work, training, camps and tests. The members were praised for their commitment and enthusiasm – as were the parents! The club also had great success on the competitive front, with some excellent results at Area competitions and no fewer than 23 members travelling across the water to compete in various championships. Among the hjghlights were Jack Morrow competing on the Northern Ireland tetrathlon team at Windsor; Katelyn Irvine’s individual sixth place at National Eventing Championships; Erin McCrea’s ninth place at National Dressage Championships and the 10th place achieved at National Championships Mini Horse and Pony Care by the young team of Penny Logan, Flora Campbell and Ruby Healy. Darragh Martin was presented with the Area Medal for the most areas completed, having competed in games, horse and pony care, quiz, dressage, tetrathlon and home championships.
Cups were presented for all the different Pony Club disciplines and for the best participants at summer camps. Laura Dale won the cup for the best girl at senior camp and Darragh Martin and Carraig McClernon shared the cup for the best boy at senior camp. The Junior Camp Cup was presented to Sarah Wilson and Mini Camp Cup to Lucy Johnston and Jake Ross. The best senior girl award was shared by Katelyn Irvine, Erin McCrea and Katie Flannagan and Jack Morrow took the award for best senior boy.
At the end of the prize giving, East Antrim huntsman, Robbie Hodge presented Hunting Certificates and badges together with the Hunt Cup, which was won by Katie Flannagan.
East Antrim look forward to another busy and successful year in 2023.
