Challenging course at Causeway Coast

THE third leg of Causeway Coast Arena’s winter show jumping league was held on Sunday, November 28. Thankfully, Storm Arwen had passed and the weather remained dry and still. Inside the indoor arena, a challenging course was set, designed by William Brown, with RDA volunteers James Christie and Jake Burnham on hand to help.

Pony Cross-Poles started the morning off and all competitors were clear. It was lovely to see Caleb Mitchell and Faith Lindsay, both riders from Crindle Stables in Limavady, taking home rosettes. Grace McAuley with her pony ‘Konnie’ and Katie Surgeoner with her ponies ‘Rocky’ and ‘Tommy’ again added full points to their tally.

Grace McAuley and Caleb Mitchell carried on their winning form, having lovely double clears in the 30/40cm class with their ponies ‘Konnie’ and ‘Colour Jack’ respectively. The McKay sisters were once again double clear in both the 30/40cm and 50cm classes and were joined by Aoife McGarry with ‘Max A Million’ and Laoise Clancy with ‘Alex’.

Zoe McMullan had another successful week with the young ponies ‘KHS Dovizioso’ and ‘Sweetwall Zoe’, both in the ribbons in the 60cm class and were joined by the very consistent ‘Ted’, with Charlotte Killen in the saddle.

Caitlin McFadden on board ‘Starry’ and Aoife Milliken on ‘Beauty’ both picked up full points in a competitive 70cm class. Zoe McMullan and ‘KHS Dovizioso’ continued their winning streak with a double clear in the 70cm and were joined by stablemate, the five-year-old ‘KHS Zarco’, ridden by Sarah Brooks. There was a bittersweet double clear for Rebecca Coulter and ‘KHS Little Ted’, before he moves on to his new home.

There was only one double clear in the 80cm class and this went to the ever-consistent ‘High Flying Hughie’ with Jessica Dunlop in the saddle. A fast 90cm class saw Beth McCartney on ‘Jack’ take the win and Aine Clancy with ‘William’ slotted into second place. Aine and ‘William’ went on to take top spot in the 1m class.

Fiona Watt and ‘Nellie’ kicked off the horse section, with a lovely double clear in the 60cm class and were joined by Vikki Morrow and ‘Katie P’ in the winning line up.

Melissa Lemon was on top form again this week, claiming another double clear on ‘Mamma Mia’ in the 70cm class. Kathryn McCurdy and the ever-consistent ‘Hazel’ added full points to their tally in the 80cm class, with a lovely double clear. Joining Kathryn on full points was Rosie Alcorn with ‘Marilyn’ and Julia Wilson with ‘Kallie’.

The 90cm class was won by Debbie Allen with ‘Pippa’, just ahead of Diane Roxborough on ‘Ozzie’. A fast and competitive 1m class, saw Anna McLean and ‘Seth’ claim the top spot and Debbie Allen and ‘Pippa’ were knocked into second place. Anna went on to win the 1.10m with ‘Seth’, keeping Geoffrey Glass in second with ‘Ollie’.

All proceeds from the show go to RDA Causeway Coast and Glens. The organisers would like to thank everyone who helped prior to and on the day of the show.

The fourth leg of the winter show jumping league will run on Sunday, December 5, with entries closing on Saturday, December 4 at 4pm. All entries are online at
