A busy day of show jumping was recently held at Eglinton Equestrian Centre in support of Davy Boyle’s 1000 miles charity walk, which is in aid of SANDS NI and Kidney Research Fund NI. The show was kindly hosted by Eglinton Equestrian Club.
Gillian and Elle Johnston started the day judging the ever-popular cross-poles class, where Caitlin McFadden with her new pony ‘Braveheart Bobby’, had the luck of the draw in pulling the first placed rosette and being awarded one of the many sponsored prizes on offer.
The 30/40cm class was as popular and saw Amelia Boggs with her pony ‘Oreo’ drawing for top place and Caleb Mitchell on ‘Pebbles’ taking second place. Miley Rouke with ‘Cinnamon’ won one of the Best Turned Out prizes, sponsored by Stracomer Stables, as well as jumping a super double clear in the 50cm class and pulling out that coveted first rosette in the draw! Leah Wylie drew second place with her pony ‘JoJo’ and Caitlin McFadden jumped another super double clear with ‘Braveheart Bobby’ and drew for equal third place, alongside Caleb Mitchell, who again jumped a lovely double clear with ‘Pebbles’.
Luck was on Megan Rouke’s side, drawing first place in the 60cm class, this time jumping double clear with ‘Rainbow’. Megan continued on her winning streak with another double clear in the 70cm class, joining her in the line up was Lily McLaughlin with ‘Franklin’ and Amelia Doherty with ‘Kizzy’. Lily and ‘Franklin’ were on top form and jumped another super double clear in the 80cm class.
Victoria Grieves with ‘Twister D’Euro’ proved to be a super consistent combination, with double clears in both the 80cm and 90cm classes. Josie Doherty with ‘Charlie’ and Zoie Dobbins with ‘Truffles’ took red rosettes in the 90cm and 1m classes, with Clodagh Callaghan joining them in the 1m winning line up on her pony ‘Gale’.
Lynn Thompson on ‘Mickey’ kicked off the horse classes with a double clear in the 60cm. Lauren McLaughlin with ‘Bluebell’ jumped the only double clear in the 80cm class. A competitive 90cm class saw just two double clears, with Billie Jean Lynch having the luck of the draw and taking top spot, while Joe Harding and ‘Maisie’ drew second place. The Stracomer Stables turnout prize was awarded to Joe Harding with ‘Maisie’.
The organisers and Davy Boyle (The Caring Caretaker) would like to thank all who supported the show in raising £650 for SANDS NI and Kidney Research Fund NI and also, a thank you to all the sponsors: CMC Physio, Bellisle Equestrian – Coleraine, Stracomer Stables, Lough Shore Equestrian – Equine Sports and Rehabilitation Massage, David Patterson Farrier, The Giddy Goat Maydown, Omagh Equestrian, Moira Equestrian, The Lodge Hotel, Mandi King.
