Charollais females in demand

POPULAR: In lamb ewe sold by David Mawhinney for 1200gns to Eamon Shanahan.

CHAROLLAIS females were in huge demand at the Charollais sale in Dungannon Market with averages up on last year. A packed ringside of interested buyers, many from the Republic of Ireland, made for a brisk trade with 31 in-lamb shearlings and 16 ewe lambs going South.

In-lamb shearlings were much sought after with top price of 1400gns going to the Tullyear Flock of Drew and Stephen Cowan.

This powerful ewe went South to the home of Sinead Brophy from County Carlow. An Oakchurch Royal Ryan daughter with a Lisfuncheon Limited Edition sired dam, this ewe had tremendous character and great natural muscle.

Two other Oakchurch Royal Ryan daughters from this pen sold for 1100gns and 1000gns, both heading to County Cork to the flocks of Eamon Shanahan and Eddie Buckley

The Ringclare Flock of Kenny and Geoffrey Malcomson achieved 1300gns and 1200gns for two Ballyhibbon Lulu daughters, selling to the Lineside Flock of Tommy and Derek Fenton.

These were two stylish well fleshed ewes sired by Riverdale Rocky and in-lamb to Lineside Supersam, Balmoral Male Champion 2018.

David Mawhinney sold his top to 1200gns, a long stylish shearling sired by Wernfawr Rex, this lot selling to Eamon Shanahan, County Cork. Another Rex daughter from the Rockvilla pen sold to Alan Garland, County Cavan, for 1000gns.

Topping the trade in the ewe lambs was the Springhill Flock of Graham Foster with Sinead Brophy from County Carlow purchasing this smart lamb for 1200gns.

Sired by Robelston Superman, dam of this ewe lamb has bred numerous stock rams. Another two stylish Superman daughters from the Springhill pen sold for 880gns and 620gns to Ryan McElhinney, County Donegal.

The Ballynoe House Flock of Ian Craig sold to 580gns for a Knockin Shop daughter. An ET sister to Dungannon Premier Female Champion 2018, this great muscled ewe lamb sold to Edward Buckley, County Cork.
