THE ‘Top Spec’ 1.35m Autumn Grand Prix Series was hosted by Kernan Equestrian Centre on Sunday October 7. The 1.35m Grand Prix class was very kindly sponsored by Botanica International and the 1.20m by McCaughey TOP Service Station, Broomfield, Castleblaney. All classes were run as two phase except the GP jump off class.
The day’s sport kicked off with the 1m class. Although the class divided between six combinations the honours had to go to Jacqui Boland and Maverick Na Ri whose fast time of 24.82sec set the ball rolling and could not be bettered.
The next event, the 1.10m, proved very successful for Sven Hadley who took first place on Acrolux in 25.74secs and third place on Jasmine Van Ter Notelaere in 26secs. William Anderson and Eleo just missed out on the top placing by 0.21 of a second leaving him in second place.
Sven Hadley was in the ribbons again in the 1.20m class with Debbie Nornan’s Acrolux first in 37.17secs and third on his own Vvood Stock De Breve in 39.05secs. Paul Carberry and Brandonview First Edition gave Sven a run for his money but his time of 38.68scs just wasn’t fast enough so he happily settled for second place.
The eagerly awaited main event of the day, the Top Spec €2,000 euro 1.35M Grand Prix, sponsored by Botanica International, was well supported. This was run as a jump off class over course designer Tom Holden’s challenging course. Of the thirty starters nine combinations went through to the jump off.
The first double clear was provided by first to go Jonathan Smyth and Ping Ball finishing in a time of 36.28secs. Jonathan managed to beat that time on his second horse Mulvin Lui by finisning on a time of 35.16secs and to top it all, last to go on his father’s Charlon Clio completed his hat trick by scorching around the track in a time of 34.54secs. So it was a case of ‘hats off’ to Jonathan whose first, second and third swept the boards.
Also congratulations must go to to Robert Harrison finishing fourth and fifth on Lil Wayne (36.60secs) and Landlysters Rubina (37.83secs) respectively. Sixth place went to another young rider Abby Morton and Delton (39.73secs).
James Kernan of Kernan Equestrian Centre thanked the sponsors Top Spec, Sean Cooney of Botanic International and McCaughey Top Service Station for their support and generosity and to all who contributed on the day to make this a very successful League Show on the equestrian calendar.
