SATURDAY, July 16 saw Hagans Croft’s five-week dressage league get underway. Competitors were delighted to get back up the centre line and, with a selection of British Dressage tests from Intro to Elementary level, there was something for everyone.
The day started out with an Intro B test and a total of nine competitors taking on this walk, trot test. With four competitors saluting to a score of 70% and above, it was Cathryn McCarroll and ‘Maggie May’ who clinched the red rosette with 75.87%, followed by Caroline Herron and ‘Clantara Lord Louis’ in second with 74.57%.
The Newcomers class is open to those competitors who have been competing at Intro level and was added to encourage those to move up and compete in a Prelim test. Only three competitors entered for this class and making an impression on judge Elaine Morrow was Olivia Pele and ‘Rhineroe Angie’ – the pair saluted to a score of 74.5% and first place. What an achievement for this just turned four-year-old mare – clearly an exciting future lies ahead!
Jas Hogg and Ruth Stewart both finished on the same percentage, 68%, therefore it was down to who had the best collective mark and that was Jas Hogg and ‘Jack the Lad’ taking home the blue rosette.
It was then on to the largest class of the day, class 3 Prelim, with a total of 13 competitors. Not only was this class the largest of the day, but also the most competitive, with 10 competitors scoring 70% and above! The calibre of horse and rider was incredible. It was great to see Lynne Robinson out competing at this venue again, this time on her new mare ‘Hope’. The pair achieved the highest score of the day, 76.59% and first place. Very well deserved and organisers can’t wait to see how they do throughout the league. Second place went to Sarah Kee and ‘Swallow’, who finished on another great score of 75.68%.
The Novice class saw Shenade Duggan and Kate Russell battle it out for the top spot, however it was Shenade and ‘Henry ‘ who finished on a round score of 70%, taking home the red ribbon. Kate picked up second place with a score of 66.35%.
The last class of the day was the Elementary class, again with only two competitors. Rachel Rendle and Michael Boyd finished with very tight scores, however, it was Rachel and ‘Meg’ who took home the red ribbon for their score of 73.39% and Michael and ‘VSH James Bond’ took second place with a score of 71.43%.
Hagans Croft would like to thank everyone who supported the first leg of five-week dressage league and thanks are extended to their judge on the day Elaine Morrow and scribe John Morrow and to their stewards for making the event run so smoothly.
