Demand for Hereford sires continues to exceed supply

THE Spring Sale in Dungannon yielded another 100 per cent clearance for Hereford bulls following on from the record breaking February sale.

With a lot of bulls not present having already been sold, only six went under auctioneer Trevor Wylie’s hammer to average £2,853. Leading the trade was rising three year old Thornbank 1 Romeo. Bred by Hunter Stewart, County Tyrone, he was sired by the homebred Thornbank 1 Mighty Man and out of a homebred Solpoll 1 Dynamite dam. He sold for 3100gns to join the Clogher Valley pedigree herd of Ian Brown, Fivemiletown.

Following closely behind at 3000gns was the youngest bull in the sale from John

and William McMordie, County Down, the 15 month old Solpoll 1 Telstar, again having a Solpoll 1 Dynamite sired dam with the sire being Moeskaer Mentos, he sold to John Wauchob, County Tyrone.

Alex Ferguson, County Tyrone, purchased the 19 month old Brookfield 1 Thor from Roy and Pat McClenaghen, County Down. This Moorside 1 Joseph son is out of a Wirruna Daffy sired dam. He was a Superior Carcase Sire and sold for 2900gns.

The first bull into the ring sold at 2700gns for Mervyn and Henry Richmond. Corraback Nilo was sired by Kye Rodge and out of a Ballyaville Don dam and sold back to County Fermanagh with John Gilleece.
