THE magnificent setting of Hereford’s Dinmore Estate on Saturday, July 2, saw the on-farm sale of the noted Dinmore herd’s Limousin and Short-horn cattle, with the sale being conducted by leading livestock auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington.
The cattle were in prime condition and the sale was a huge success, especially for the Shorthorn breed, which saw breed records broken.
Show winning Shorthorn cow Dinmore Zoe Katrina (P), with March born heifer calf at foot Dinmore Zoe Sabrina, set a new breed female record selling for 24,000gns with her daughter Dinmore Zoe Rosina setting a new breed heifer record at 20,000gns.
Limousins sold to 30,000gns for Dinmore Sensation, a six month old embryo calf out of show heifer Dinmore Perfection. This section drew massive interest, registering an incredible average of £11,535 for seven calves.
With breeders continuing to look to invest in good genetics for their herds, interest in the frozen embryos was unbelievable with the Limousin average for 24 embryos set at £840 and for the Beef Shorthorn at £748.
This on-site sale offered buyers the opport-unity to purchase some of the most sought-after Limousin and Beef Shorthorn in the
UK.
Interest was phenomenal throughout the auction, with attendance from the length and breadth of the UK and 25 per cent of the stock being sold online.
Averages achieved for the sale were as follows:
Beef Shorthorn
Fourteen cows/heifers with calves/in calf, £7,200; 10 heifers £4,520; two bulls £4,882; 12 frozen embryos £748.
Limousin
22 cows/heifers with calves/in calf £4,009; 33 heifers £3,842; five bulls £4,347; seven embryo calves £11,535; three crossbred heifers £3,097; 24 frozen embryos £840.
The sale was to reduce the herd numbers of Paul Dawes, of Kipperknowle Farm, on the Dinmore Manor Estate. Founded in 2001, the Dinmore herd has established itself as one of the leading pedigree Limousin herds. It utilises in only the best bloodlines for breeding.
This care and precision in the breeding process could clearly be seen in the quality of the animals for sale on the day.
James Little, auctioneer for Harrison & Hetherington, said: “We were absolutely delighted to have been asked to complete this sale of renowned pedigree stock.
“Paul and the team on the estate worked tirelessly to present the very highest calibre of cattle, and to ensure everything was ready for our team of 12 when we arrived in advance of the sale.
“This was a collaborative effort from both the Dinmore Estate team and our team at Harrison & Hetherington, and as a result we had a hugely successful day and saw leading prices achieved.”
