THE Donkey Sanctuary recently attended the Horses in Education and Therapy International (HETI) Congress at the RDS showgrounds in Dublin hosted by Festina Lente.

This was an international conference which provided a series of research and practical presentations on the benefit of horses to children, teenagers and adults through therapeutic riding, equine assisted learning and equine assisted psychotherapy.

Such programmes have been found to improve the psychological, psychosocial and/ or physical wellbeing for people with social, emotional, cognitive and physical difficulties.

This was the first time the conference was hosted in Ireland with over 400 delegates attending from 44 countries around the globe. The Donkey Sanctuary joined forces to showcase the benefits of equines in therapy alongside representation from Irish Draughts, Kerry Bog ponies, Connemara ponies and Irish cobs.

HRH The Princess Royal Patron of HETI 2018 attended as guest of honour at the conference, addressing the delegates and meeting with representatives from various Equine Assisted organisations.
