HIGH profile racehorse ‘Dreal Deal’, owned and trained by Ronan McNally in Co. Armagh, was due to run in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last week, but unfortunately had to be withdrawn, as his health wasn’t 100%.
The horse has had a great run of success lately, winning his last six starts in a row, but McNally wasn’t happy with the general health of his horses and felt they just weren’t ‘firing on all cylinders’.
McNally tried everything to get ‘Dreal Deal’ fighting fit in time to travel to Cheltenham, including the horse having an Equine Reiki treatment with Valerie Westfield, owner of Westfield Equine Reiki.
Ronan was impressed with the Reiki treatment and saw improvements taking place with ‘Dreal Deal’ before his eyes, saying: “I have never seen him like this before.”
Despite this, the trainer wanted to give him a bit more time before putting him under the pressure of travelling and racing.
Ronan McNally said: “’Dreal Deal’s’ health comes first and there will be other races.”
The good news is ‘Dreal Deal’ is improving and McNally is considering Aintree, Fairyhouse and Punchestown as possible options when he is back to full health.
