AFTER the strong winds and torrential rain of the past week, Hagan’s Croft’s second leg of their five-week dressage league went ahead on Saturday, November 10 without a glitch. With a total of five classes on offer from Intro to Elementary, dressage enthusiasts, young to not so old, turned down the centre line to judge Coreen Abernethy.
The first class of the day was a Pony Club walk-trot test, where Sarah McClay and ‘Tigger’ took the top spot with a score of 71%, closely followed by Ellen McDonald and her Connemara, ‘Mario’ with 70.33%. Lindsey Kirk and Valerie McCracken battled it out for third place, with both competitors sitting on the same score of 67.33% and the same collective mark of 20.5, however it was the walk mark which separated them, with Lindsey and ‘Blossom’ pulling an eight out of the bag for their free walk across the diagonal. This cemented third place for them and fourth for Valerie and ‘Braveheart’. Well done!
Hagan’s Croft was delighted to see once again more new faces to their Newcomers class. It was Sophie Anstey’s first time to compete at this venue and she certainly made her mark with a score of 69.25% and taking home the red ribbon. Liz Orr and ‘William’ were once again in the ribbons this week, this time it was blue with a score of 68.25%.
Prelim 12 saw some very accurate tests being ridden with the top four competitors scoring above 70%. Ellen McDonald was absolutely delighted with hers and ‘Indie’s’ efforts, as they rode home with a score of 76.2%, claiming the red ribbon. They were closely followed by Jackie Hanna and ‘Truly’ with 75.2%.
Once again it was a good day at the office for Jackie Hanna and ‘Truly’, riding streets ahead and gaining the highest score of the day in the Novice class with 79.62%. There was no doubt that this pair were taking home a red ribbon… congratulations! A sat-nav issue meant that Lynsey Sneddon and ‘Carsonstown Porsche’ came home with a very respectable score of 70.38% and second place, followed by Kathryn Huson and ‘Cadi’ with 70%.
Even though numbers in the Elementary class were low, spirits were high as Mandy Blakely and ‘Kizzy’ saluted to a score of 70.8% and the red ribbon. Thank you to all the competitors who supported the second leg of this five-week league and Hagan’s Croft hope to see them all again next week.
Thanks are extended to the judge Coreen Abernethy, scribes and stewards and to Black Horse Photography for covering the event. Photographs are uploaded the following day and can be purchased direct from Black Horse Photography N.I’s website.
The League continues every Saturday until December 1. The final is open to all competitors, even if you have not qualified for the league. A separate prize giving will be held for those competing on the day and those competing in the league. To qualify for the final, each horse/ pony and rider combination must compete in three out of the five weeks and within the same dressage class. Competitors must be present at the final to be eligible for league placings. Scoring is based on a points system and details of league scores can be found on Hagan’s Croft’s website or facebook page. Rosettes are awarded to the first six placing each week and within the overall league placings.
