THIS year, East Down Branch of the Pony Club combined their prize night with a Hallowe’en Party at Riverhill Stud on November 6, kindly hosted by Jonathan and Clare Steele. The Steeles have been busy recently, following a successful trip to Le Lion. Fun and games abounded with music, dancing, spooky competitions, some amazing costumes and a very competitive tug of war.
Organisers were grateful to Viscountess Dilhorne, Nicola Manningham-Buller, for assisting with the prize giving and judging the fancy dress. The theme for the night was ‘Giving something back’ and the prizes reflected the Pony Club’s core values of Sportmanship, Horsemanship, Friendship and Fun. There was an excellent raffle, with some amazing prizes donated by very generous East Down families.
The branch has had a successful year, both in terms of competition and increased membership and activity. Members have travelled to Scotland and the UK representing their branch and have also taken part in Pony Club camp, as well as many training clinics with top class coaches.
Over the past couple of years, East Down has fielded squad members in Irish eventing teams, with Caoimhe Crozier earning pony team bronze in Poland 2021 and Tom Rowlatt-McCormick part of the Silver Medal Junior Eventing Team in Hartpury this year.
