EXACTLY one year to the weekend since 15-year-old Erin Mathieson and ‘Longwood Dawn’ made their eventing debut in an EI 90 class at Maddybenny, the pair completed the Pony Two-Star class at Ballindenisk International in Co. Cork.
They made their long journey from Moy, Co. Tyrone worthwhile by scoring a Personal Best in dressage of 35.2, followed by the addition of 12 in the show jumping arena (there was only one clear round in the class1). Cross-country on Sunday was completed in their normal style, clear and inside the time. They finished in 10th position in a strong Pony two-star, where many of the competitors will be vying for European team selection.
Erin is a pupil at the Royal School, Dungannon and her next outing is the final of the schools’ show jumping at Balmoral Show next Saturday (May 14).
Erin isn’t the only talent in the household; her sister Niamh, who is 16 and a pupil at the Integrated College, Dungannon is a budding photographer and takes fantastic pictures of Erin in action.
