The EU Settlement Scheme closes on 30th June 2021
How will this impact your farming business?
Free movement with the EU ended on 31 December 2020 when the UK introduced a new points-based immigration system, which requires anyone wishing to enter the UK for work to meet specific criteria.
Individuals from outside the region currently working in the UK can apply for settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, however, applications for this scheme close on 30 June 2021. So, if your farming business employs non-UK workers, and you want to continue doing so, you should advise these individuals to apply to the scheme immediately.
Moving forward, businesses may only employ staff from outside the UK or Ireland if they have been granted a visa under the new points-based system, which has strict eligiblity criteria.
What’s more, if your business intends sending UK passport-holders to work in the EU in the future, you’ll need to be aware of the visa requirements in the destination country.
