SUNDAY, March 3 saw a great turnout for the second of Lusk’s Garden Events, the first having to be called off because of frost. The 85cm class was so large it had to be divided into two sections. It all started sharp at 10am, with a 15-fence galloping course, finishing over David Kirkpatrick’s new jump Double Vision. Having finished the arena section, riders dropped out onto the track to tackle the 17-fence cross-country course, including two waters – the second water slightly more difficult, with jumps in and out of it, so giving the eventers a great school before the first event.
Upgrading the challenge, Sarah Whiteside was at the start and finish timing the cross-country section – this proved to be decisive in the results, causing faults for any not going round at Eventing pace.
In the highly competitive metre class, Ellen Douglas showed her class taking the winner and runner up spots on ‘Johnny’ and ‘Indie’ respectively, with the only double clear.
The winners all took home a Lusk rug, this year red! Jenny thanked all the large band of Lusk Livery helpers, who worked hard all day to make the event such a success.
The White Horse Cafe was busy all day.
