Following on from last week’s poultry page, com-piled by David Neill, this week we look into the planned details of this year’s rescheduled Royal Ulster Agricultural Society 152nd Balmoral Show and already excitement is building as this long-awaited event is fast approaching.
It has been announced that this year’s show will take place from Wednesday, September 22, until Saturday, September 25.
This is Northern Ireland’s largest agri-food event and is sponsored by the Ulster Bank.
With the event being at a later stage in the year, the scheduled times on each day are as follows:
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are 8.30am to 6pm and Saturday is 8.30am to 5pm .
The schedule will be online at the end of June with entries closing on July 28.
For us in the poultry hobby, this is wonderful news as we will again be able to display are wonderful array of yesteryear domestic waterfowl and poultry, showcasing many of our rare and minority breeds.
During the pandemic, with many being at home, a lot of new people started keeping poultry and among these new poultry keepers it would be great to see some considering exhibiting their poultry – and what a way to start at this year’s Balmoral Show.
With the event now in September, older stock may be through their annual moult and this year’s birds may well be in show condition by this stage.
For me the most important part of poultry exhibition is the friends that you make over the years and this show is certainly something to really look forward to and an opportunity to meet up with friends that we may not have seen for over a year.
A lot of planning has gone on for this event, especially to keep us all safe, so let’s look forward to a wonderful few days at Balmoral Park, Maze, Lisburn.
