Farren in ‘blissful’ form at first leg of Dalways Bawn Dressage League

SUNDAY, October 3 saw the first leg of Dalways Bawn Equestrian’s dressage league. Competitors who rode on the day enjoyed crisp autumn weather, with a couple of heavy showers that didn’t dampen their spirits. Competitors also had the option of entering the competition online, this proved popular. Thanks must go to Coreen Abernethy for judging and providing excellent constructive feedback to all the riders. Thanks must also be extended to helpers and scribes and to the very generous sponsors for providing lovely league prizes.

The day began with the Elementary test, with a league prize from Millars Bar Ballycarry. Julie Dauncey and ‘Summer’ were the only Elementary partnership, taking home the red rosette with 66.35%.

Novice was the next class up, with a league prize from Doagh Equestrian. First place here was claimed by Katie Lowry and her pony ‘Crosspoint Tobin’ with 68.97%; second place went to Barbara McMurray and ‘Rocco Bananaman’ on 68.28% and third place was awarded to Tia Wharry riding ‘Dalways Stormtrooper’, who scored 65.52%.

Next to come was the Preliminary class, with a league prize from Cleaver and Steel butchers, Ballycarry. This first leg was won by Elaine Leinster with ‘Goldie’ on a score of 68.27%; second place went to Robyn McMurray and ‘Rocco Bananaman’ on 68.08%; third place to Leanne Montgomery and ‘Monty’ on 66.73%; fourth place to Sarah Ross and ‘Jet’ on 65.77%; fifth to Grace Hedgley and ‘Summer Storm’ on 64.23% and sixth place to Jill Crawford and ‘Henry’ on 64.23%. Well done to all the rest of the riders in this class!

The Introductory class was next – this was the biggest class of the day with 15 competitors. This league prize is supplied by IGS clipping services. The first leg placings were first place, Stephanie Farren and ‘Bliss’ with 69.41%; second to Anne Harrison and ‘Marella’ on 69.12%; third to Stephanie Farren and ‘Crystal’ on 67.65%; fourth to Aimee Daley and ‘Theo’ on 67.06%; fifth to Heather George and ‘Bob’ on 66.47% and sixth to Katie Lowry and ‘CJ’ on 66.47%. Congratulations to the rest of the riders in this class.

Last but not least was the Dressage to Music class, where first place went to Leanne Montgomery and ‘Monty’ on a score of 70.42%; second to Victoria McCandless and ‘Koolstyles’ on 70.42% and third to Sarah Kileen with ‘Simon’ on 68.18%.

To be eligible for league prizes, competitors must do three out of the four legs (one of these must be the Christmas final in December). The next leg will run on October 31 and competitors again have the option of riding on the day or entering online. Keep an eye on the Dalways Bawn Equestrian facebook page for all details of this and other events.
