Final showdown at Ballymena

Ducks 17-1-19 SM Farm

Last Saturday saw the final Ballymena Club show of the season held at the Slemish Hall within the Ballymena Showgrounds.

Poultry shows don’t just happen but require a great amount of work from the show committee, judges, sponsors and exhibitors who should all be applauded for making the two club shows and the championship show into a wonderful successful show season for the Ballymena Club.

Judges on Saturday who kindly gave up their precious time to be at this event were Graham Lowe, Tom Lowe, Roy Lewis, Dermot Gardiner, Ryan Ligget, Artie Faulkner and Jimmy Hughes.

Birds that made it to Championship Row were as follows:

Best Large Light Soft Feather was a Welsummer female exhibited by James Boyd.

Best Bantam Light Soft Feather was a white Leghorn female exhibited by Jimmy Corken.

Best Large Heavy Soft Feather was Adams & McLaren’s Cochin.

Best Bantam Heavy Soft Feather was Adams & McLaren’s Orpington.

Best True Bantam was Mervyn Mooney’s Black Barbu d’Anver.

Best Junior was Ellie and Katie Hurst’s Poland.

Best Oxford was exhibited by Kenneth Fleck.

Best Carlisle was a Lemon blue exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Old English Game was a black hen exhibited by A&R Shaw.

Best Modern was a wheaten bantam pullet exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Heavy Duck was exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Call was exhibited by Ginny McKee.

Best Light Duck was a white Indian Runner exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Minature duck was a Silver Appleyard exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Eggs were exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Asian was exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Aov Hard Feather exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Rare Breed was Jeff Hurst’s Kraienkoppe bantam.

Best Trio was exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

Best Goose/Gander was exhibited by Adams & McLaren.

After consideration by the judges the overall Show Champion award went to Adams & McLaren’s Wheaten Modern Game bantam pullet.

Reserve Show Champion award went to Jimmy Corken’s White Leghorn bantam.

This was also a regional championship Old English Game show which was won by Austin and Robert Shaw’s Black Old English Game bantam hen with the Reserve Champion award going to Peter O’Loughlin from Kildare’s Crele.

n The final show this season being held in the Slemish Hall is the Ulster Poultry Federation Show on Saturday, February 2.
