HAVING hot water on demand has always been a challenge for dairy farmers. But it’s no longer wishful thinking for the Johnston family of Drummurry farm in Enniskillen. Since they made the switch to the Flogas LPG Instant Hot Water system, they’ve never looked back.
Owned and run by Stephen Johnston and his wife, Drummurry is a third-generation farm of 200 acres and rents 50 more, milking 170 cows plus followers. His electricity system wasn’t producing enough hot water at the temperature needed so while searching for a better alternative, Stephen heard about the Flogas LPG system through his local hardware store, Beatty Hardware and Farm Supplies in Ballinamallard.
Stephen’s local Flogas rep-resentative paid a visit to his farm to show how it worked. Impressed by what he saw and by the beneficial results experienced by other farms, Stephen made the switch to Flogas LPG.
The local installer did a site walk-through and advised on the best location to install the heater units and the optimum distances from the heaters and water taps. A Flogas bulk LPG tank was delivered and sited, and two wall-mounted water heaters were installed and connected.
Stephen said: “We found the process of switching to Flogas LPG very easy and we’re now enjoying the benefits of instant hot water on demand and reduced costs.
“The move to Flogas has benefited the health of our livestock, particularly the calves. It’s great peace of mind to be able to use as much hot water as we need at any time of day,” he continued.
Making the switch has trans-formed day-to-day operations for the Johnstons with on demand hot water in temperatures from 37°C to 85°C, a consistently low TBC count since installation, no storage costs, reduced carbon footprint and full control over the amount used. It reduces their kVAs and, in addition, LPG systems are also secure from theft.
