A civic reception has been held for Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Award winners from the Causeway Coast and Glens.
Now in its 11th year, the annual awards represent the biggest taste competition for Irish produce.
The latest local winners included: Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil – Best in Derry, Best in Farmers Market (Derry) and a Gold Award; Glenballyeamon Eggs – Gold Award; Lacada Brewery – Bronze Award (Ale category); Morelli’s Ice-Cream – Bronze Award (Frozen Yogurt); Irish Black Butter – Chef’s Choice Award; Corndale Farm – Gold Award for its Corndale Wild Sika Venison Salami.
The event also provided an opportunity to recognise the Morelli family’s recent success at the Ice Cream Awards held in Harrowgate, Yorkshire, where the business was named Overall National Champion in its best ever performance at the ‘Ice-Cream Oscars’.
Expressing her congratulations to all the successful producers, Causeway Coast and Glens Mayor Brenda Chivers said: “The Blas Awards are based on the blind tasting of produce and it is a tremendous achievement to see our area perform so well.
“Our food and drink sector continues to flourish and it is fantastic to see the hard work of our farmers and producers rewarded at this prestigious level.”
More than 2,500 products were entered into the competition, competing to win Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in over 100 food and drink categories as well as specific key awards.
