MY name is Sarah Boyle and I currently work as the Group Technical Compliance Manager in Foyle Food Group, a family run group of companies with a farming heritage dating back several generations. Established over three decades ago, we have a long-standing history of supplying quality beef to leading customers.
I gained a first-class BSc (Hons) degree in Food Technology from CAFRE, Loughry Campus. The ‘learning by doing’ ethos of their education and training programmes not only makes the courses more interesting, but also makes us job ready and gives students the knowledge, skills and confidence to ‘hit the ground running’ for a career in the food and drinks industry.
In addition to my degree, I have also furthered my knowledge in meat technology by attending the meat technology skills programme delivered at Loughry campus. These courses have furnished me with the essential information on meat processing and practices which has enabled me to make a valuable contribution in my workplace.
I am currently responsible for the technical and new product development operations of the Retail Packaging facility currently operating at the Omagh site – this is a new operation with an investment of over £6 million ensuring technical standards meet the British Retail Consortium’s Global Standards for Food Safety and all other customer specific requirements. A key part of my role is technical project management and developing new products to meet consumer and retailer demand, driving forward our retail packing sales. Travelling is an important part of my job and every day is different and brings new challenges which are all very exciting.
With the excellent education and personal development opportunities I received at CAFRE I feel that I have all the necessary skills and competencies to meet and surpass the daily challenges I encounter.
