IVEAGH Pony Club hosted over 125 riders at their Junior and Intermediate Summer Camps during the first week of July. The hallowed grounds of Moyallon were the destination of this fantastic experience for the children, who also spent some time at the wonderful Duke’s cross-country course just across the road.
Junior campers enjoyed riding lessons each morning, with their fabulous instructors and learned all about the skills of a farrier, gaining a well-earned farriers badge in the afternoons. Bouncy castle, the fire brigade and disco fun were also part of the magic of camp for the under 10’s at Junior camp. The highlight for most though was the slip n’ slide on the last afternoon, allowing for some great antics and acrobatics whilst sliding down the hill!
The Intermediate campers honed their riding skills each morning under the wonderful tuition of their instructors, while also earning points for their team through tack and turn out, learning equine dentistry, spot challenges and team games. Hoops, tonne bags, straws and eggs were all put to good use to ensure well-earned points and exhausted but exhilarated riders and instructors! An evening trip to South Lakes for some fun in wetsuits on the lake provided great entertainment and much-needed exertion of energies to ensure some sleep that night, as 40 of the riders camped out at Moyallon grounds, while their ponies went home for a rest.
Huge thanks need to go to the amazing instructors, the ever-patient and hard-working parents and the wonderful team of volunteers, who made these camps some of the best ever seen at Moyallon.
