Galloway cattle come under the hammer in Draperstown

- Advertisment -

More than 60 Black, White and Belted Galloway cattle are set to come under the hammer at Draperstown Mart on Friday evening, July 16, on behalf of Richard and Selina Beattie

At the same auction Jim Morrison will be selling nine registered Lowline Angus heifers and young cows with calves at foot.

The Beattie’s sale comprises of pedigree and PBNR cows with calf at foot, in calf, and a selection of heifers.

Two stock bulls will also be for sale on the night. All of these have been out-wintered on the hill and will prosper well for buyers.

Also on sale will be Mr Morrison’s entire 2021 spring calving section of the Oldtown herd at Downpatrick.

They are running with Lowline bull which is also in the sale. Another young Lowline bull is also offered.

This new breed of cattle in the UK retains all the virtues of the original Aberdeen Angus. They are docile, easily handled, well conformed and produce high quality beef.

They finish at grass, a quality that ensures their future sustainability, and makes them particularly suitable for smallholders.

They originate from a selective breeding programme in Australia and herds are being established in USA, Canada, the UK and Ireland.

Last year the Oldtown herd exported four females to Switzerland.

On their debut at Gosford Show, the Oldtown Lowlines won many of the Interbreed awards.

On farm inspection is welcomed. Further details from Jim Morrison (07903337577).
