Good turnout at Lleyn open day on lough shore

THE NI Lleyn Sheepbreeders’ Club members were de-lighted with the number of visitors who came to view the flock of club member John McKavanagh, Lurgan.

Visitors were able to enjoy the sunshine as they walked around the stock and many compliments were made on the quality of the animals on show.

The stockjudging competition sponsored by Animax Ltd was won by Russell Millen from Macosquin as he matched the placings of the master judge.

Fane Valley Stores donated five vouchers for the Guess the Weight competition and the winners included Catherine Kennedy, George Caldwell, Seamus Killen, Artie McWhinney and A Bothwell.

Thanks also go to Johnston Gilpin & Co Ltd for the use of its John Deere Gator on the day, which proved very useful.

After the farm walk John McKavanagh and family provided an excellent meal for all those present which made a satisfying end to an interesting afternoon.

Club members are now looking forward to their Annual Show & Sale on Saturday, September 8, at Ballymena Livestock Market where the Society Chairman Ifor Jones, owner of the Penior Flock from Conwy in north Wales, will be judging the various classes.

There will be 950 females and 46 rams, all eligible for export on offer.

Sale begins at noon after judging at 10am.
