Ground conditions match the weather for Lusk’s Two-Phase

LUSK Equestrian’s Two-Phase took place on Sunday, May 22, with ground conditions matching the weather on the day.

Jenny said how lucky they were to have such a fantastic band of helpers, numbering over 20, without whom it could not have taken place.

Cyril McIlroy, assisted by Harold, Jenny, Catherine and Mervyn, worked throughout the week to prepare the cross-country course and were so grateful for the greenery supplied by David McClurg and Karen King to put the finishing touches to the jumps.

The 1m class went through both waters and two water splashes and included parts of the all-weather cross-country at the plantation and the arena. This was a change from previous events and was favourably viewed by the riders and spectators.

Proceedings started at 9.30am sharp due to the high numbers of entries under the direction of Fran Warden, who assured everyone that the event ran strictly on time.

Competitors came from all over Northern Ireland, with a few making the journey from the south.

The 1m class, over 23 fences, was very competitive and really caused very few problems, with some competitors ringing before the event to see if the metre would be a metre… Yes, a metre is 39 inches or 1m!

Many amateurs, young and old, had a great day’s sport in the 85cm and 70cm classes and Sarah received many texts of thank you from the riders and owners, which made the hard work worthwhile.

Lusks continue for the next three weeks with show jumping from the polo mint stakes (low poles) to 1.10m, starting at 10am. Entries to Sarah on 07840 117132.

Lusk’s also plan to hold a Derby on June 19 – hopefully on grass, so keep your eyes on social media and the papers.
