THE Heterozygous polled Fleckvieh bull Mahango Pp, owned by European giant Bayern Genetik, is ranked number two for TMI 139 on the official Austrian and German proof run released earlier this month.
David Hazelton, UK and Ireland agent for Bayern Genetik, said: “Mahango Pp is just three points behind the TMI leader, but has a much superior linear classification, which is based on his first-crop milking daughters. Mahango Pp is the complete package, and is proving to be the number one choice for discerning Fleckvieh breeders worldwide.”
Heterozygous means that 25 per cent of Mahango’s calves will be polled at birth. On the production side Mahango Pp has a massive plus of 1,188kgs for milk, with +44kgs fat and +34kgs protein.
Mr Hazelton added: “I have always advised farmers not to use bulls with massive extremes of milk, but Mahango is different. With a score of 118 for stature, 113 for muscularity, 115 for feet and legs, and 107 for udders, he will breed strong daughters capable of high production as his fitness score of 116 suggests.
“Coupled with a calving ease score of 110, and a beef index of 112, Mahango Pp will increase milk yields and is very suitable for both pedigree and crossbreeding. He will feature in our 2018/19 Directory, and is already in demand throughout the UK and Ireland.”
Mr Hazelton concluded: “Mah-ango Pp is a hot Fleckvieh sire, and with the continuing uncertainty over Brexit, and the falling value of the GB pound, forward orders would be advisable to avoid disappointment.”
