A small entry of black and white bulls attracted a steady trade at Holstein NI’s May sale, hosted by HA McIlrath and Sons Ltd at Kilrea Mart.
Prices peaked at 2950gns, and following a complete clearance auctioneer Mark Stewart confirmed that four lots changed hands to level at £2,691 per head.
Sale leader was the sixteen-month-old bull Prehen Fred-
eral GPLI £660, bred by Robbie and Stuart Smith, Londonderry. Sired by SHG Rainstorm Red, he is bred from Prehen Predestine Froukje VG86, which averaged 9450gns at 4.66% butterfat and 3.64% protein in five lactations. This bull’s third dam is a former number two GPLI UK cow, and a half sister to the former number one proven PLI UK bull Prehen Omen. Prehen Frederal sold to Rashee Farm based at Doagh, County Antrim.
Herd mate Prehen Fairhill PLI £690 sold to Camkirk Farms in Bushmills for 2850gns. This fifteen-month-old bull was sired by Bomaz Kettle A2A2. His dam is the home-bred Prehen Persus Froukje SP, a former number one GPLI UK female, and his fourth dam Prehen Goldwyn Froukje LP90 EX95 (4) 56* was nominated Gobal Cow of the Year in 2018.
Next best at 2450gns was the nineteen-month-old Keely Frankel, consigned by William Black, Coleraine. Sired by Annandale Frankel, he is bred from the Dixie family. His dam Keely Atlanta Nadia 2 EX90 averaged 10,200kgs at 3.79% butterfat and 3.27% protein in three lactations. Buyer was David McKeeman from Ballymoney.
