SATURDAY, February 25 saw week two of Ardnacashel’s Winter Stars Tour, this time it was the turn of the horses to perform. The show was split into two parts – the morning being devoted to the babies, an excellent education opportunity. The course was a bit ‘softer’, keeping in mind the need to build confidence in the younger horses to help develop their mind and body. Taking great care to set up a friendly course with correct striding patterns, David Wightman produced a course that both challenged and helped the riders and their younger mounts.
Coming in first place was Angela Penman and her horse ‘Lys Etoile’. Angela is a regular face at Ardnacashel and it is great to be able to watch as this pair grow in confidence with each other, with every day out being better than the last. In second place was Sarah Kinnear riding ‘Jessie’, while third place went to Janene Gamble on ‘Braeview Little Lion Man’.
After a quick course adjustment, giving the competitors time to visit the hot food cabin and refuel, the second part of the day could commence. With the course set to height and asking a few more questions, the more experienced combinations could take their turn. The first class was the 1*, with first place being claimed by Mya Morrison riding the talented ‘Levante’. In second place was a familiar name, Emma Jackson – this talented producer of horses had multiple rides on the day, in this instance the blue ribbon went to ‘Star’ and the green for fourth place went to ‘Ottis Reading’. In third place was Nicole Galbraith on board ‘Fiona Bella M22’. Fifth went to Nicci Hall with ‘RLF Oblivion’ and the sixth-place ribbon went to Jennifer Griffin riding ‘Glide on Dancer’.
With the jumps going up a few holes, the 2* class got underway. First place was claimed by Melissa McKinstry, who jumped a fantastic round on her ‘Oxendene Lui’. Coming in close behind her was Grace Carlisle riding ‘Something Smart’. Pam Fox took third on her own ‘Bonnie McKay’, while Emer Magee claimed fourth on board ‘Diamond Mountain’. Coming in fifth was Lucy Crawford riding ‘Cardento Diamond’ and taking sixth place was Vikki Fox on ‘Centre of Maze’.
The final section of the day was the 3* class, where Emma Jackson had her name twice in the prizes, but was pipped to the post for first place by Nicci Hall riding the suavely named ‘Lady Killer’. Then it was the turn of Emma Jackson riding ‘Kylestone Cassell’ into second place and ‘Flynn M’ into third.
Huge thanks to everyone who attended, helped and supported for the Winter Stars Tour. Photographer on the day was Black Horse Photography – thanks to Anna for being there to capture everyone in their glory.
