CAUSEWAY Coast Arena held a show jumping training show on Sunday, March 27. William Brown designed a flowing course for the competitors and it was Faith Lindsay on her pony ‘Molly’, who jumped the first clear round of the day in the cross-poles class. She was joined by the Grant sisters, Neala and Cara with the ever-popular ‘Lady P’.
Caleb Mitchell with his super pony ‘Captain’ took the first win of the 30/40cm class and, also collecting red ribbons, were Faith Lindsay and Katie Surgeoner on their ponies ‘Molly’ and ‘Tommy’ respectively.
The first red ribbon in the 50cm class went to Lacey McLaughlin with ‘Pebbles’ and Aoibhean Kelly with ‘Cindy’ also jumped double clear. Lacey went on to jump another fabulous round in the 60cm class with ‘Pebbles’ and joining them in the winning line up was Katie McDonald with her pony, also named ‘Pebbles’!
The 70cm class saw two double clears, again from Lacey McLaughlin, but this time on ‘Flash’, and Sammy-Lee McClenaghan with ‘Angel’. Sammy-Lee and ‘Angel’ opened the 80cm class with another double clear, joining her was Lacey again with ‘Flash’ and Aidan O’Brien with his two ponies ‘Emma’ and ‘Johnny’.
Aidan O’Brien made it a hat-trick with another double clear from ‘Johnny’ in the 90cm class. Sara Margey jumped two super double clears with her ponies ‘Princess’ and ‘Aladdin’ – with ‘Aladdin’ also taking the win in the Equine Awards Junior Rising Star qualifier. Alana Doherty was also on form, with double clears on both her ponies ‘Sally’ and ‘Mickey’ again in the 90cm class. Sara Margey finished on a high, with another two double clears in the metre class, again on her ponies ‘Princess’ and ‘Aladdin’.
The horse section commenced after the ponies and Joanne Lyons with ‘Skye’ jumped the first and only double clear in the 60cm class. Jayne Robinson with ‘Colourado Kid’ jumped the only double clear in a competitive 70cm class.
Kathryn McCurdy, a regular volunteer at RDA Causeway Coast and Glens, jumped the first double clear in the 80cm class and was joined in the winning line up by Julia Wilson with her home-bred ‘Kallie’. Blathnaid Doherty and ‘Chuck’ jumped a lovely double clear in the metre class and, also picking up a red ribbon, was Hannah Thompson with ‘Cara’.
The organisers and all at RDA Causeway Coast and Glens would like to extend their thanks to all who helped at the show and to all the competitors, who by entering are supporting the valuable work of the RDA. The next show at Causeway Coast Arena will be a show jumping show including the Balmoral Schools’ team qualifier on April 3. Following this will be a Working Hunter competition on April 10.
