A second week of Hunter Trials took place at Lessans, Saintfield, last Sunday, and the winners of the Novice and Open classes had something in common – they were both ‘Bugs’…! Taking first place in the Novice class was Bailey Dunn with ‘Bug’; while the Open honours went to Hannah Patterson and the ever-consistent ‘Ladybug’!
With prizes again kindly sponsored by Bluegrass Horse Feeds, there was some great competition and a lot of fun had on the day; highlights included several sat-nav errors, some very loud (and sweary) rider commentary and the teaming-up of brother and sister Alex and Niamh Fitzpatrick to take second place in the Pairs competition, just behind the unbeatable young combination of Mia Lewis and Ellie Simpson. Running across four fields, Philippa Auret’s flowing course had enough questions to make things interesting, with the undulating hills, ditches, steps and banks catching out a number of unwary riders.
The final week of Hunter Trials takes place this Sunday, September 23, with the always-popular Lessans Hunt Hacks running on September 30 and October 7 – spaces must be booked in advance.
