Iveagh fundraiser spreads a little sunshine

NOT only was the sun shining brightly over Moyallon on Saturday, September 11, the grounds of Iveagh Pony Club were radiating an aura of yellow, to support a ‘Working Hunter Fundraiser Show’, in aid of Tiggy’s Trust.

The family of Tiggy Hancock set up a foundation to help young people follow their passion in memory of the young eventer, who passed away in June following a riding accident.

Tiggy’s Trust is to support young people by spreading kindness, helping them build connections and match them with resources they need to realise their dreams. This will be through physical and mental preparation, as well as mentoring. It is to give young people with a passion a chance – to give them a step up and a little bit of help.

Iveagh Pony Club has over 300 active members, many of whom may receive assistance or support from this worthwhile foundation in the future.

On the days running up to the show, it really was a team event. There were parents volunteering to paint jumps vibrant yellow, build and dress courses, while another group met at Moira Sunflowers, early doors over two separate mornings to pick sunflowers that could be sold on the day – thank you to Christina Brown for her support.

One of the very talented parents, Lynda Pike, made yellow ribbons and badges that were available to buy, while others gathered a selection of fantastic prizes to be raffled off in the ballot.

On the day, there were over 210 competitors, competing in classes from cross-poles up to 1.10m. Each class was kindly sponsored by a local business or parents associated with the club. Competitors received lots of fabulous prizes and rugs, which were provided by Premier Saddlery, as well as beautiful yellow rosettes and sashes from Roberta’s Rosettes and Honeyhill Rosettes. The ponies didn’t miss out either, Judy Maxwell from Baileys Horse Feed was also on hand providing well deserved treats and feeding advice.

All the smiling faces and special moments from the day, were captured by the very talented photographer, Tori O’Connor and the show banners highlighting the event, were provided by Jeremy Trimble, Trimprint, Portadown.

Both courses were designed by Toni Donnelly, HSI Level 2 Coach in all disciplines, but a specialist in Working Hunter and Showing. Toni, along with Kevin McGuiness, judged the 70cm + classes in the grass arena, while Chloe Thompson and Alistair McDonald judged in the sand arena. It was great experience for each combination to showcase their talent, while also receiving positive feedback and tips to improve.

All the judges commented on the impeccable turnout of children, ponies and leaders and the effort that everyone had gone to, to wear yellow in support of Tiggy.

This show would not have been a success without the organisation of Iveagh parent, Lisa Tumilty and her dedicated team of Iveagh volunteers front of house and behind the scenes. A massive thank you to all the sponsors and everyone who contributed to this special event, to make it a success!

Donations are still coming in, so a final total raised will follow in due course.
